OTBA Committee Meeting Minutes - June 2003
Old Takoma Business Association
General Meeting
May 27, 2003
Kittner offices
Present: Bob Atwood, Pennye Jones-Napier, Sara Daines, Rob
Inerfeld, Sam Kitner, Bobbi Kitner, Dorothy Camer, David
Eisner, Mike _________, Bonnie Moss, Faith Wheeler
Computer capability: We now have a discussion list for the
Marketing Committee. For Takoma Online, Pennye wants one
person to serve as a liaison for information to put on the
website. Eric Bond is writing a page about Old Takoma.
Map: Bobbi is reworking a map to include Takoma Junction.
Question: Do we only want member businesses on the map? A
motion passed to include the name, address and telephone
number of non-members.
Benefits of membership: We need to answer the question, “What’s
in it for me?” We need to develop a list of 10 reasons
to join. The Marketing Committee will assume that task.
Marketing Committee Report: The Marketing Committee will
showcase 3 different logo options at the next meeting. We
need a Post Office box. We need Membership information. Is
there funding for Marketing development?
Mission Statement: The following mission statement was proposed
and approved:
"Old Takoma Business Association:
A member-driven community organization bringing together
businesses dedicated to developing a vibrant city center
from Takoma Junction to Takoma DC"
Finances: We need to know how much money is available. Checks
have been cut. 501(c) 3 is necessary to receive money from
foundations, etc.
Fundraising Committee: Andrea Urciolo reported that after
6 years of running the Street Festival, the key management
points are now on a disk. We can ask for corporate donations
and raise half of what we need.
Money-makers: Raffle, corporate stages, T-shirts (David can
offer a design). A stage costs an average of $2000 per. We
can get it paid for by corporations, e.g., the Bank of America
stage.
Events: Andrea will contract a climbing wall. Raffle proceeds
will be for OTBA. We can expect to net between $2 - $3 thousand,
an estimate without corporate funding.
Bands: David Eisner has 12 bands already.
Hours: This year the fair will run until 5 p.m.
Grant from Takoma Park City Council: Sara Daines will research the conditions
of the $25,000 grant. With the matching grant, we’ll have $50000, which
is not tied to the Main Street designation.
Next meetings: We’ll meet every month. Next meeting
will be June 17; then July 8. Marketing Committee will meet on July 6 at 8:45
a.m.
The meeting was adjourned.
