General Meeting
May 6, 2003
Kittner offices
Present: Bob Atwood, Pennye Jones-Napier, Tania Chichmanian,
Bobbi Kittner, Alice Giancola, Robbi Kendall, John Urciolo,
Sam Kittner, Andrea Urciolo, Joy Austin Lane, Rob Inerfeld,
Natalie Cooper-Berthe, Janet Walker, Faith Wheeler
A little after 9 a.m., President Bob Atwood opened the discussion
on the steps to be taken in order to apply to the Main Streets
programs in Maryland and DC:
1. Decide on a name that reflects the whole of the membership:
from 4th Street to Old Town to Takoma Junction.
2. Apply for a 501(c)3
3. Develop By-laws, mission statement, logo, flier
The following decisions were made:
- Old Takoma Business Association became the new name of
the organization, with a vote of 8 for, 0 against. (Some attendees
abstained.)
- We will look into filing for a 501(c)3 in both Maryland
and DC. John Urciolo will find out what needs to be done in
Maryland; Faith Wheeler, in DC.
- The Marketing Committee, with Bobbi Kittner as Chair, will
assume the responsibility for developing the mission statement,
logo, flyer. Bob Atwood will take the lead in drafting the
By-laws. The Recruitment/Membership Committee will merge with
the Marketing Committee for now.
- Faith Wheeler will email to everyone the shorter version
of the Mission Statement.
- The Fundraising Committee will proceed with plans for participation
in the street festival to raise money in general and specifically
to match the $25,000 grant from the Takoma Park City Council.
- The Fundraising Committee will meet at 9 am on Friday,
May 16 at the Savory; the Marketing Committee will meet at
1 pm on Friday, May 16 at the Kittner offices.
The next general Old Takoma Business Association
meeting will be at 9 am on May 27, 2003 at the Sang-ha Café.
Members/attendees were encouraged to recruit new members,
particularly now before the dues are raised.
