About Old Takoma Business Association (OTBA)

Old Takoma Business Association is making a difference in the Old Takoma area by actively pursuing ways to improve the community and commercial district. Join OTBA and you will become a part of a team who is dedicated to:

• Supporting businesses that help shape the character of Old Takoma;
• Improving gateway signage and directional information to Old Takoma;
• Developing safer pedestrian walkways;
• Improved parking in Old Takoma; and
• Reducing crime.

OTBA’s mission is to bring together businesses, residents and community organizations dedicated to developing a vibrant market center, from Takoma Junction Maryland to the Takoma Theatre DC, to enhance our unique and historic town setting. We are seeking new members today to create, through a network of like-minded individuals, a better, brighter future for Old Takoma.

In the spring of 2004, OTBA spearheaded the City of Takoma Park's successful bid to become a Main Street Maryland community.  We will apply for designation for the Takoma DC portion of our commercial area when it is next offered by the District of Columbia.  Click on "Main Street" at the left to read more about the Main Street Takoma initiative.

What type of businesses participate in OTBA?

Our membership includes:
• Retail Establishments
• Non-Profit Organizations
• Professional Service businesses
• Home-Based Businesses

Why is it called Old Takoma Business Association now instead of Takoma Old Town Business Association?

Good question! It started out as Takoma Old Town Business Association a number of years ago but it has now expanded beyond the merchants in Old Town Takoma Park and Takoma DC. Consequently, the name reflects the broader business area that originally was the area called Old Takoma around the rail line at the Turn of the 20th century.
